Equine Movement

What should I expect on our first visit?

Upon your first visit, you & your family will be given a full tour of the farm. After the tour is complete, the treating therapist will ask all family to exit the gates and wait in the designated family waiting area. Your therapist will fit safety equipment for your child and then start the equine movement session.

Can siblings visit the animals?

We kindly ask that siblings do not interact with our animals. They are welcome to pet the cats or visit the goats. Other than that, all animal interaction is limited to events we host.

What should my child wear?

Dress for the weather and what your child will tolerate. Closed toed shoes are preferred but not required. Long pants can limit the amount of rubbing on saddle pads/saddles. Your child is welcome to bring hats, sunglasses, water bottles, etc. as well. We have blankets we use during colder sessions.

Why are some riders not wearing helmets?

Certain medical conditions make it dangerous for children to have additional weight on their heads, and some riders cannot tolerate helmets for their rides. All riders without helmets have a release signed by parents prior to riding

What happens if the weather is bad?

We take safety very seriously at Iron Horse. If the weather presents a danger to us (snow, rain, excessive heat, etc.), therapy will be moved into the barn. Your therapist will notify you ahead of time if this happens.

What if I just want my child to take riding lessons?

Iron Horse Therapeutic Farm does not provide riding lessons. We are happy to recommend different centers around the area to go to!
